Every gorilla family in Bwindi and Mgahinga can be visited by one group of up to eight people a day, for one hour. That limit protects the gorillas, and it is why permits sell out.
What a permit is
A permit is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority in one traveller’s name, for one gorilla family on one date. It covers your hour with the family and the rangers who take you to them.
What it costs
The Uganda Wildlife Authority sets the price and changes it from time to time, so we do not print a figure here that could go out of date. We confirm the current price when we quote your trip.
Book the permit first. Build the rest of the trip around the date you get.
How booking works
Tell us which sector you would like and the dates that could work.
Send us the passport details of every traveller, because permits are issued by name.
We reserve the permits and confirm your date, then plan the rest of the trip around it.
Which sector?
Bwindi has four sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Rushaga has the most gorilla families, and Nkuringo has the steepest treks. Tell us how fit you are and when you want to travel, and we will suggest where to go.
